General Pain

Pain is usually what brings someone to the chiropractor – If you are in pain please read on to find out more.

Pain is like a fire alarm. Pain is what you feel when there is a problem in the body. We might know this pain as joint pain, sciatica, headache, plantar fasciitis, tight shoulders, stiff neck and so on ….Chiropractors can help discover the source of the “fire” and help you and your body to restore normal function and “put the fire out”.

Brain scientists who’ve studied the effects of chiropractic care on the brain have discovered that chiropractic adjustments can change the way your brain functions. In other words, chiropractic has a neuroplastic effect on your brain. The way your brain learns to be in pain is very similar to the way your brain learns anything. It’s called neuroplasticity or brain adaptations. The good news is that your brain can also learn to stop sending you pain feelings by adapting in a good way to new inputs or interventions.

We know that chiropractic adjustments change function in a part of your brain called the prefrontal cortex. This part of your brain is actually the part that is very involved in where pain becomes a chronic problem. This might be why the earlier you have chiropractic care the better, because early chiropractic care results in better long term outcomes. It might be that chiropractic care can prevent pain from becoming a chronic problem.

Using low force techniques our chiropractors can help alleviate joint pain, such as shoulders and hips, back and neck pain. Muscles are often painful when there is dysfunction (as they often over work) improving function will help relieve muscle pain too.

Our chiropractors are highly trained to determine whether the source of your pain is neuromusculoskeletal or caused by something else. If they determine the source of your pain is not something a chiropractor is equipped to treat they will refer you to your GP for further evaluation.
